The instant New York Times bestseller!

Jocko Willink's methods for success were born in the SEAL Teams, where he spent most of his adult life, enlisting after high school and rising through the ranks to become the commander of the most highly decorated special operations unit of the war in Iraq. In Discipline Equals Freedom, the #1 New York Times bestselling coauthor of Extreme Ownership describes how he lives that mantra: the mental and physical disciplines he imposes on himself in order to achieve freedom in all aspects of life. Many books offer advice on how to overcome obstacles and reach your goals—but that advice often misses the most critical ingredient: discipline. Without discipline, there will be no real progress. Discipline Equals Freedom covers it all, including strategies and tactics for conquering weakness, procrastination, and fear, and specific physical training presented in workouts for beginner, intermediate, and advanced athletes, and even the best sleep habits and food intake recommended to optimize performance.

Within these pages discover the keys to becoming stronger, smarter, faster, and healthier. There is only one way to achieve true freedom: The Way of Discipline. Read this book and find The Way.

  • Fantastic!!

You can’t help but be motivated by this book...if you are willing to be open and honest with yourself. Some of the things that are said in the book may be hard to swallow. Some of it may be hard to accept. If you walk into this journey with a “way out” mentality, this book isn’t for you. If you want to change your life. Change your path. Change your mental wiring, then this book is for you. I can’t put it any more simply than that. I have the utmost respect for the military, our special forces, as well as the Navy Seal teams in particular, and I am honored to have this perspective at my fingertips. I will reference it regularly and will also refer to it to maintain my commitment to myself and my journey. Thank you sir. Keep up the good work.
  • Inspirational and Reaffirming!

I just finished this very informative book. It helped me to remember what is important when I’m trying to improve in my physical fitness and in other aspects of my life. Being a veteran myself I was able to relate and take the information the author was delivering on a deeper level to work past a sticking point, both in my conditioning and in my Jiu Jitsu training. I highly recommend reading this book and not just internalizing it’s theme, but acting on it and incorporating it into your daily life. I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Just in case you read this, you’ve changed my life. I was a product of a less fortunate upbringing and always felt sorry for myself for the way I was raised. Primary Dad gone, addicted to heroine, step-Dad in, after a couple years in the projects with my Mom. I’m white, the projects were black. It was tough. I quit everything I started. Always with an excuse. I made many mistakes. In 2005 I joined the service and things looked up. I made many errors still. But I’m growing. My step-Dad was a mason and a carpenter, I labored for him since I could carry mud in a wheel-barrel from the time I was 13. He lacked many things as a father but he forced me to learn hard work with cement block and scaffolding. I took this work ethic into the service and became a reliable enlisted person. But, I was still troubled, drinking crushed me off duty. The military worked for me though, where’s the standard and expectation? I can identify it and push right past it while keeping my mouth shut, head down, and just work. 12 years now, I’m past being a journeyman for my service and I’m sober. I’m becoming a leader of other men and women service-members that serve our country and I want to be great at it and you have written these maps that I can follow to ensure I stay on the right path. Effectively, you have shown me through your writing and speaking what no other man has shown me my entire life, how to be a Man. How to lead other people. How to be responsible and disciplined. How to be humble. How to be a better Father. Holy smokes the list goes on. Extreme Ownership; check , Way of the Warrior Kid; check, Discipline Equals Freedom Field manual; check, Jocko podcast; episode 11 with your boy Leif, unreal. Jocko, I know you won’t accept credit because that’s the type of person you are. But I wanted you to know that you changed the way I live and the way I am able to impact all the people around me in my life because you put yourself out there, I figured the least I could do is write you back and say thank you! Very Respectfully, Tim

After reading Extreme Ownership I was hoping Jocko would write a second book. I jumped at the first opportunity to preorder this book once it was available, and after receiving my copy I was not let down. I really enjoyed this book. I’d love for this to also be released as an audiobook as well. But until then, do yourself a favor and pick up this book.
